Hello, my lovely Acorn Hills followers!  I report great things....the book signing at US Bank in Amana was wonderful.  Thank you to Tessa, Lynne, Melinda and the others for allowing me to share their space for a couple hours.  I made a lot of contacts and sold 6 books.  Not bad for a 2 hr time slot!

Thank yous also go to the Crazy Ladies Stalkers book group.  The likes on my Facebook author page approach 700! Can you believe it???  When I was less than 300 at Christmas this is an awesome thing to see!  Please, if you haven't purchased Bittersweet, you can still do that for a reduced price for Kindles...it is only $2.99! There is a slight price reduction on the paperback as well.  For your copy, please visit the link below.

In keeping with my morning routine....coffee made, toast done, sit down and check emails, answer those that need answering, check likes and record from Facebook...then scroll through the notifications making sure I didn't miss anything, this morning has been pretty normal...until this disturbing post made me spit out my coffee!

I'm just appalled at what some people will do for attention. Now, before any of you start ragging on me...this is only MY opinion....I respect your opinions and know they are just that...YOUR opinions...just as what I type here are my words, my thoughts and my opinions.  I will not shove them off on anyone, but I will address stupid when I think it is warranted. And trust me...this is the epitome of stupid as far as I'm concerned.

Ted Nugent, famous rock star, famous totally crazy, whacko man (with guns I might add) is in the limelight again.  The lyrics to one of his songs was posted on Facebook. Maybe I'm sensitive to this kind of stuff because of my background of being physically and sexually abused from the time I was 12 yrs old until I was 15...I don't know, but there are some things that are just so wrong on so many levels, and this is one of them.

Nugent's lyrics are so disgusting, I want to just rip off his you know what! Here is the link to the song lyrics.

http://www.lyricsmode.com/lyrics/t/ted_nugent/jailbait.html

The song, "Jailbait" should be banned from all forms of media. It was written in the early 80's and on Nugent's second album. The current controversy surrounding this song is because of a photograph taken of Nugent at a political function. Unitewomen.org brought this to light.  I don't know about you, but any politician with a brain should disassociate from the support given by Mr. Nugent (but I know money talks in any arena) When an adult writes/sings about molesting a 13 yr old, something needs to be done.

Robin Munkelwitz wrote 3 days ago at 4:10 pm on the lyricsmode site,  "Being in my 40's I remember this song when it came out on his second album. I was only a teenager myself when it came out so I was'nt insulted by it. But now that I'm a father with a daughter myself I find it quite sickening that some adult would be singing about wanting to molest a 13 year old!"

*sigh  Is this really a sign of what our society has become?

Older?  Wiser?  Still a kid at heart?

So many have asked what are you doing for your birthday?  I cannot remember ever celebrating it....except one time...someone gave me a surprise 40th birthday party that was a total bust....The former love of my life and I would take each other out to our respective favorite restaurants for our birthdays. This year my son surprised me with money to help purchase some new items. It was such a wonderful surprise!

I found so many old memories in folders the other day when I was cleaning.  One of my throwback Thursday photos posted on Facebook today was of my best friend Mary Ann Mallette and I playing dress up....I think maybe we were in kindergarten or first grade....the high heels, and the fake leather purses....and the dolls dressed up the same....tea parties, mud pies, dolls, pretend!!!!!

The innocence of youth and a less complicated time...the early 60's where we were oblivious to all that was happening in the world...until one day around lunch time when we were told not to come back to school that someone had shot the President.  I remember going home and watching the news coverage, I remember the tears from Walter Cronkite as he announced President Kennedy had died.  I remember watching the people, throngs and throngs of them sobbing uncontrollably....wondering why it was so sad.   I never got my answer until many years later...wisdom.

Never understanding the Vietnam war, never understanding the liberation of women who burned their bras...growing up with the music of passionate people like Pete Seeger, Joan Baez, Peter, Paul and Mary...yet not understanding what they sang about...until many years later..wisdom.

You know, we all go through so many different phases in our lives....birth, early childhood, pre-teen, teen, young adult, marriage, divorce, children, diseases, death of parents/spouses/friends, middle age...approaching 60!!!!!  I truly never thought I'd get to this age.  I never thought I'd see past 30!  Older

So an older and wiser me....as of midnight tonight...is still a kid at heart....I still love watching it snow, regardless of how much I complain about winter....I love singing to familiar tunes and driving my son crazy as we drive down the road...I love licking the icing out of the insides of the Oreos, and a lot more things too numerous to mention! Older...

So, tomorrow...a request...somehow get in touch with your inner child and enjoy a thought, a smile or a memory of a younger day....AND  don't forget to come see me at the US Bank in Amana from 3-5 where I will be signing and selling copies of Bittersweet....there will even be treats....dark chocolate brownie bites....and some dark chocolate chow (like puppy chow without the powdered sugar and peanut butter), after all, we ARE celebrating ALL THINGS BITTERSWEET!  :)    Hugs and love to all.

THIS AND THAT

It is the 2nd Monday of February!  Well, tomorrow will be anyway.  And because of that, I am a day early for my weekly blog.

Yes, it is Valentines' week, or Singles' Awareness Week, or whatever you want to call it. It is the time of year where people go crazy trying to please those they love by giving flowers or jewelry or taking them out to an expensive dinner.  Sometimes it works to show love, most times it doesn't. And I still hold to what I said in last week's blog....shouldn't we LOVE daily?

Anyway, I am so excited about tomorrow and Tuesday...February 10th and 11th. Yup, it's that time of year....time when the blow dryers are set to high and the combs and brushes are flying.   That's what I'm talking about....The Annual Westminster Dog Show!  I don't know about y'all, but...there is just something about watching these beautiful...and smart...animals do their thing in the ring.  What is your favorite breed? Why?  I love the Yorkies and the Bernes Mountain Dogs, the Schnauzers and the Collies, the Welsh Corgi and the Puli....oh heck, I love them all (well except for a few of the hounds).  So after a semi grueling day tomorrow and Tuesday, I can come home to dinner and the dog show.  I'm a happy girl.

I also wanted to give you a little background update on the WIWWIW (Why I Write What I Write)

The idea for Bittersweet and subsequent books in the Acorn Hills series was born a few years ago. I began writing as a way to release the negativity that was happening in my life.  After three years of frustration from a love relationship that was going nowhere, I tossed what I had written into a file folder and shoved it in my desk. It stayed buried in my files for five years.
When I got on a cleaning frenzy, my desk bore the brunt of my energy.  Opening my “file” drawer I found the folder and heard this audible voice saying “You have all you need at your hand.”  I didn’t quite understand it, until I pulled the papers from the file. That was in March of 2013.
I continued with the story line and on October 3rd, 2013 I received confirmation from Kindle Direct Publishing that Bittersweet was LIVE.  I couldn’t believe it!  I actually wrote a novel that was the beginning of a five part series!
These stories are a combination of my life experience, the jobs I’ve had, the places I’ve lived, the people who have crossed my path, and the loves I’ve lost. Mixed into it is a whole lot of imagination. Acorn Hills is a blending of the small town where I grew up, Cut Bank, Montana, and the large city that forever will hold my heart, Portland, Oregon.
My intent is to show the literary community that people who are the “salt and pepper” generation (the over 50 crowd) have so much to contribute to all areas of life. We have wisdom from past relationships, health issues, and children.  We are still very much alive and still very much want and need to have love and be loved. We want to share our lives with those around us. We want to experience every adventure to the max until our buckets are overflowing!
This new romance genre is so important to me. It touches a portion of our society who can truly relate to divorce, death of a spouse or child, running businesses, growing older, retirement and/or placing parents in care facilities.
I want to be the person who takes this new romance category, this new “salt and pepper” genre to the masses. I want the words that I write and the stories I tell to truly make a difference in the lives of those who read them. And I want those who read these books to share them with others.

So with all that being said....pour your glass of wine, grab your dinner and join me for the best of the best in the canine world. Have a wonderful week! Love and hugs to all.  :)

A LITTLE BIT O'LOVE

I've had about all of the below zero temperatures that I can handle!  Our wonderful meteorologists noted that we have had 28 days (including today) of below zero temperatures.  A wind chill advisory continues into tomorrow...and more snow is forecast for sometime this weekend. And....

Valentine's week approaches. It is the same day every year...February 14th. It is the day those with significant others celebrate the love they have for each other.  Hundreds, even thousands of dollars will be spent on flowers and jewelry and special dinners.  With tongue in cheek...recent years have led me to think of this date as nothing more than Singles' Awareness Day!

In my way of thinking, why do we have to have only one day to declare our love for others?  Shouldn't this be an every day event?  I know for me it is. The past few years I've tried to be more intentional in telling those around me "I love you."  Some get the wrong idea...and that is their problem....

There are so many forms of love...it is easy to get them confused.  The highest most pure form of love is "Agape" love.  Then there is love between parents and children....love between best friends....love between married partners...love between committed partners....love for animals...love for Mother Earth...love for self.

As this week approaches...I challenge each of you to say "I love you" and really mean those words to someone each day beginning tomorrow.  A week filled with I love yous is not nearly enough!  :)

I do love you all so very much.
